Alkaline water is water that has a pH level that is greater than 7.0. Potential for hydrogen (or pH) measures the acidity or alkalinity of a given substance, with 0 being extremely acidic and 14 being extremely alkaline. Therefore, a 7.0  is neutral.

This is important, in terms of water, due to the fact that most of the water that comes from our home or office faucets today, or that which we find in bottles of water at the store, is more acidic, which can have adverse health effects.

The tap water you might find at home contains minerals and salts, in addition to several other elements which are not ideal for human consumption. However, water found in springs an aquifers is already alkaline, due to the variety of minerals it contains, such as calcium and potassium.

The main issue with your water falling into the acidic pH range is that our society already consumes a good amount of acid in our current diet, and putting more acid into your system by drinking water, which is a necessary part of life, is somewhat preposterous.
